Master Scuba Diver Trainer. “MSDT” #353254

Daniel started diving in 2001 and became a MSDT in 2014. When he came to Key Largo Undersea Park and was introduced to Jules’ Undersea Lodge Daniel knew he had found a home. While here, Daniel has worked as a support diver for the Discovery Channel, filming one of their Shark Week episodes, written his own “Underwater Maintenance Distinctive Specialty” through the PADI organization after the devastating hurricane Erma hit the Florida Keys and has become a Handicap Scuba Association Instructor with his own boat especially fitted for his handicap students.

That’s not all. Daniel has also developed a program for our youth to go from Open Water certification to Dive Master. If you want to become a certified diver or you’d like your children to be certified with a patient and by the book instructor, You Want Daniel.

Sidemont Diving

Having scuba tanks on your back isn’t a requirement for exploring the underwater world. Many scuba divers have discovered the joy of mounting cylinders on their sides. Sidemount diving gives you flexibility and streamlining options. Plus, you don’t have to walk with heavy cylinders on your back – just enter the water, clip them on and go. If you’re a PADI Open Water Diver who is at least 15 years old, you can enroll in a PADI Sidemount Diver course.

Sound interesting? Sign up for the PADI Sidemount Diver Specialty course with Mission Director/Instructor Andrew Bohl. He is the one featured in the Peak Performance Buoyance video with his Sidemount.

Along with learning about the many benefits of diving with a sidemount configuration, during one confined water and three open water scuba dives you’ll learn how to:

  1. Properly assemble and configure sidemount scuba diving equipment.
  2. Trim your weight system and sidemount gear so you’re perfectly balanced in the water.
  3. Manage gas by switching second stages as planned, if wearing two cylinders.
  4. Respond correctly to potential problems when sidemount diving.

Get credit! The first dive of this PADI Specialty Diver course may credit as an Adventure Dive toward your Advanced Open Water Diver certification – ask your instructor about earning credit.

You’ll want to use your own mask, fins, snorkel and exposure suit. Our PADI Instructor, Andrew Bohl will explain the sidemount equipment you’ll need, such as a BCD and harness configured for sidemount diving along with cylinders, each with a regulator and Submersible Pressure Gauge, SPG.

Course Cost:

  • $139.95 for PADI eLearning.
  • $350.00 Instruction

Everyone is charged tax of 7.5% unless you have documentation of being a non-profit organization.

Jules’ Undersea Lodge (formerly La Chalupa Research Lab) also served as the site of the historic 1995 sea-space link-up in which ocean pioneers Scott Carpenter and Ian Koblick spoke with astronaut Mike Gernhardt aboard the space shuttle Endeavour. Both Jules’ Undersea Lodge and the MarineLab have been used in research on extended space travel.

The lagoon is sheltered but is still considered an open water dive site. It’s 30 feet deep, and has platforms and down lines for SCUBA training. The world famous PADI organization utilizes Jules’ Lagoon and Key Largo Undersea Park for its exams. We have witnessed hundreds of new instructors at Jules’ Lagoon.

Besides being an excellent place for learning to snorkel or dive, the Lagoon is home to Jules’ Undersea Lodge, the world’s only underwater hotel where your scuba dive to your room.

Whether you’re a SCUBA instructor looking for a place to work with your students, a diver interested in getting a unique PADI Specialty, or someone interested in discovering SCUBA diving – the Lagoon at Key Largo Undersea Park is the place for you! Prices do not include sales tax.

Great shot of Andy Bohl

This is a great shot of Andy Bohl, our Vice President of Jules’ Operations, doing a full face mask dive in Jules’ Lagoon. We get a wide variety of Technical divers visiting the lagoon to check-out new equipment and go over safety procedures before going on deeper or even more technical penetration dives. Jules’ Lagoon is a safe environment for equipment and safety drills.

When we don’t have guest in the lodge our divers are able to dive by the windows and have a look at our bedrooms and common area.

Fish identification is a fun way to dive the lagoon as well. We have Sea Horses, Snapper, Parrot Fish, Barracuda, Sergeant Majors, Blue Tangs and of course let’s not forget the Manatees who visit on a regular basis. Our lagoon is open to the creatures who patrol our water ways so we can’t promise you’ll see them all but I’m sure you’ll see quite a variety when you come.
